Day 4 – Count the Cost First

Reading:-Luke 14:28-30

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish”

Reflection

“It happens to all of us. We get into something and realise that the commitment or personal investment needed for something is greater than we thought at the outset. ‘This is more involved than I thought’ we say to others or ourselves. In this passage, Christ wants us to count the cost of pursuing Him or pursuing the things we want in life. Nothing is free and no choice is without costs. If we are really following Christ, have we counted the cost and laid aside the things that make following Him harder – or are we just going through the motions? If this is the case for you, consider offering this prayer; ‘Lord, help me lay aside the things that I carry which don’t help me follow you.’

Spiritual Exercise

Every second we have been alive has been a chance to do something good or to do something selfish. Time is one of the things we should think about when we count the cost. Have we used it wisely?
