Reading:-Isaiah 60:19
“The sun shall no longer be
your light by day,
nor for brightness shall the moon
give light to you by night;
but the Lord will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.”

Reflection
Sunsets: serene signals of celestial splendour. There is something awe-inspiring about the grandiose in nature; the authority of the sea, the command of the wind, the silent sunset. Being overwhelmed by nature takes us outside of ourselves. But its beauty is only momentary. The sun must eventually set, and no longer do we have a light to guide us, nor do we have the sun’s heat to warm us. However, we learn from today’s passage that we should not pursue or rely on fleeting beauty, yet we should crave glimpses of eternal glory. We should not cling to the sunset itself, or else we shall always be unsatisfied, but rather the sunset is simply a reminder of the magnitude of our everlasting light, our Lord. God who is a constant light to our path, and whose presence we can feel, as though radiating heat. I will leave you today with a thought from C. S. Lewis: “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen, not only because I see it but because by it, I see everything else.”
Spiritual Exercise
Make it your aim today to find a moment of peace in which you can focus on God’s majesty. Perhaps it is seeking the grandiose in nature and being reminded of God’s glory. Or maybe you would prefer to light a candle and spend some time in quiet prayer and reflection. Either way, find peace amongst the business of life and aim to look beyond yourself, open to being overcome by God’s grandeur.
