Reflection
In June last year the papers were full of stories about the lack of workers to gather in the harvest, particularly fruit and vegetables. For many years the UK had depended on seasonal migrant workers, but with the Covid restrictions in force, many farmers suddenly found that they were very short of staff. British workers were unwilling or unable to help much, and the fear of fruit rotting on the trees was much talked about. And then we heard a different story – in one area a group of people had banded together and offered an apple picking service – when your tree was at its maximum capacity you booked them to come and strip the branches of their fruit, and then they would move onto the next tree or booking. As Christians we are aware of the great need for the harvest of souls, but often we fear to get involved because we are worried about getting it wrong. Being part of a team helps to get a job done; let us think about who we can team up with to reap the fruits of the gospel of love in our neighbourhood.
