Reading:- Genesis 1:30-31
“And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.’ And it was so. 31 God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.”

Reflection
On these long and (sometimes!) sunny days of summer, it’s hard to imagine the dark of the winter nights isn’t it? The thought of closing the curtains early and a long night of darkness feels worlds away and not very inviting to most of us. In the dark of the night however, if we look upwards and outwards, God reveals to us the awe and wonder of His whole creation beyond our world; the stars, the planets, galaxies and out into a universe that is so immense it is impossible for the mind to imagine. The beauty of what lies beyond our everyday life is revealed to us in the dark, if we look up and out and adjust our eyes. How true this is for our lives as well. In times of darkness, if we look upwards and outwards with a new perspective, God can reveal His beauty and purpose in every situation we find ourselves in. How great our God is and how wonderful His creation.
Spiritual Exercise
Take time today to stop and wonder at God’s creation around us. The dance of the bees, the call of the birds and the beauty and complexity of the trees and flowers. Then in the darkness, look and think about the immense universe of which we are a miniscule part – and consider what an amazing God we have. He created all of this, placed everything intentionally, yet He craves to know us and have a relationship with us as if we were the only one in his universe. He loves us all individually as His children and knows us and has a plan for each one of us. And He loves us so much that he sent His son to die for us. What an awesome God we have.
