Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12: 1,2

Reflection
As we continue on our Lenten journey let’s heed these words from the writer of Hebrews. Here, the writer has just referred to the incredible hardships of a number of Old Testament figures (chapter 11) and he says that with their example in mind, be encouraged and persevere in your faith. Similarly, consider what Jesus went through and don’t lose heart. As we have to live with the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic, many people are really struggling with a host of issues. Maybe you are? Well, he says, deal with anything that may be preventing you from running the race of faith, particularly any sin in your life, and then “fix your eyes on Jesus” and keep going. The key in dealing with any of the challenges of life is to fix our eyes on Jesus! If we do that then we can cope and be free to live life as he wants us to.
Spiritual Exercise
Your to-do for today: During the course of today, whenever a negative comment or thought comes into your mind, try to pause and refocus. Think about the example of others in the past who may have withstood enormous suffering and yet pushed through. Then ask Jesus to fill you afresh with his Spirit and give you the ability to let go of these things and allow his light to permeate your being. Remember, you are a “Child of God” and he is with you and loves you.
Music
Now listen to this song and once again make the words your own:
Be sure to come back tomorrow to read more about how we can experience God’s peace in our lives.
