Reflection
Periods of rest are crucial not only for our own health and well being, but also for our relationship with Christ. True rest, that which takes us away from the things that drain, that distract us, and allows us to put down the burdens that weigh us down, should abound in this time of lockdowns yet we still feel compelled to relentlessly fill our time. Screens seem to be far more present than normal, and even though our movements are restricted, time seems to be in short supply. In this passage Jesus promises rest to those who are weary and burdened but there is something we have to do first. He calls us to Him; “Come to me…” What would it look like for you find time, without the activities that so easily distract (hello Netflix) and truly rest in the presence of Jesus.
Spiritual Exercise
So today, take 20 minutes, find a quiet space, leave your phone in another room and turn off the TV and radio and trust that God will use that time to speak to you, to refresh and restore you.
